and these have been popping up in black and latino sections. voting in this country is not supposed to be scary of confusing. you are not supposed to get how and when you vote or whether there are days for hispanic americans or non hispanic americans to vote. you should not believe that someone would try to spend you to jail for voting. that is what it is coming down to though. joining us now is bob herbert. bob, thank you for being here. i feel like those examples are almost unbelievable. i almost thought that it was a photoshop hoax, but it is really happening. >> i have been covering this since 2000. we have been covering this. they have been on this voter intimidation kick ever since then. they are on the loosing side of the demographics in this country but they are trying to keep as many of their opponents away from the polls as possible. this should be a bigger story. it should be. there is frustration from the people who want this to be the bigger story in the country. a lot of the reason why people get stimied in trying to report on it

in colorado, a large latino population, this is how many new voters signed up as democrats in 2008 looking at the period from january to october. this is how many new voters signed up as republicans in the the same time period in 2008. a big advantage for the democrats. just colossal. that was 2008 in colorado. now look at what has happened in the same time span this year in 2012. democrats have improved their number some over even what they had in 2008. look at the republicans. the republicans in colorado, they improved their numbers a lot. the democrats have lost the colossal part of what had been their colossal advantage in new voter registration in colorado. let's go to iowa. look at this. from january to october, that sweet spot again in 2008, new democratic registrations outpaced republican registrations in iowa by almost 8 to 1. look at 2012. look at the difference. that's negative. look at those numbers. that's 0 in the middle. where did all the democrats go? the democrats have lost, not gained, lost almost 23,000 new registrants this year. meanwhile republicans are basically putte
